Media Room 

It is an academic forum to strength learning environments supported by information technology. Designing, developing and implementing these environments are relevant issues combined to generate research projects on different areas of knowledge and supporting the development of autonomous learning in academic programs.


Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The room has seventeen Dell Pentium-4 workstations for users networked with a working group called DEL-ART in the Media Room and a general command linked to the University.

It also has three workstations, i.e. server room (Acer), one for monitors (IBM), and one for the Manager (Dell).

- Each computer has Windows XP, Office XP, Macromedia, the Sig-mapinfo programs, ArcView, English Discoveries and projects Britain, Himini and Usa.

The Room works 76 hours a week



Language Lab


Language Laboratory serves from Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm to the entire community to carry out different classes scheduled from the beginning of the semester. Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm serves students of extension courses.

Students have three hours of free exercises where they may use all of the materials and equipment in the lab. For this activity and other ones, they have the assistance of a Coordinator or a Monitor (the schedule are on the door of the laboratory, Room A303.)

The equipment at the Laboratory includes: a television set –soon we will have again the Video Beam–, a VCR, a DVD, a tape recorder double cassette and CD player, tape recorders for playing back audio cassettes, computer for playing back audio CD.  

Moreover, Lab has a system of 30 workstations installed and controlled by a master computer to perform different listening and pronunciation activities. The study material in the laboratory includes books, dictionaries, CDs, videos, cassettes, etc. Thus laboratory is a place to academic support of teachers and students with sufficient material and equipment to give classes, thus it is an appropriate place for a proper performance of the teaching-learning process of the academic profile for benefit and a common goal, such as learning languages, and training integral professionals.




Geographic Centre Leonardo Perez Castillo

The Department of Social Sciences at the UPN has the Geographical Center Leonardo Perez Castillo whose main goal is triggering teaching-and-learning processes of Social Sciences, emphasizing particularly on development of spatial thinking through academic areas that allow us to know and understand the geographic space we live, construct and deconstruct.


It was created on 1975 and the first name was Geography Laboratory under Professor Alfonso Gomez Orduz direction whose main objective was the implementation of a division to have experiences. From the beginning, its basic function was building a forum for documentary and instrumental guidance of cartographic, photo-interpretation and bibliographical nature.

In 1996 the new name of the Laboratory of Geography was Geographical Center Leonardo Pérez Castillo paying tribute to professor and provide recognition for his work and contribution to train new generations of teachers.

- Geographical measurement instruments: planimeters, digital map measurers, altimeters, compasses, stereoscopes and other resources, such as projectors, transparencies, slides and DVD.
- 30 copies of Journal GEOSUL, period 1991-2009.
- 33 copies of textbooks of France about history of geography.



The Dept. of Social Sciences at the UPN has a division called Centro de Estudios Especializado en Ciencias Sociales Germán Colmenares (CEDECS) whose main goal is triggering research, teaching and learning processes of Social Sciences and research of history, pedagogy and related society sciences over time.

This site was created in 1990 to support academic and research issues of professors, students and graduates of our Dept. Also it was created to pay tribute professor Colmenares and recognize his contribution to Colombian historiography in the field of social and economic history of the new history of Colombia.
