About Us

Universidad Pedagógica Nacional has developed research and educational proposals that seek to meet challenges to yield social and pedagogical knowledge, and those challenges related to training educators and researchers committed to a peculiar, complex socio educational reality of our country. Under this conception, the Department of Social Sciences came through with the Masters of Social Studies that began from the second half of 2008. This training proposal is conceived as a postgraduate training program aimed at building knowledge and thought on social issues such as the constitution of subjects, a societal space arrangement and a cultural criticism from a perspective open to cross-disciplines dialoguing socially responsibility with other non-disciplinary practices.

The three research lines that characterize Masters of Social Studies (Memory, Identity and Social Characters; Education, Citizenship and Political Subjectivity; and Social Space Construction) as well as design and development parameters of the program (reflection on restructuring social science, reflexivity, cross-disciplines, and a dynamic nature of the knowledge construction and its social, political and cultural effects) are based on a gathered reflection and research of other postgraduate programs developed at the Department of Social Sciences.

Consistent with the Mission and Vision of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, this Master seeks to strengthen research of social studies from a cross-disciplinary, reflective and socially conscious perspective. The objectives are as follows:

To set up a room for analysis, discussion and yield of contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches of social and educational research.

To generate strategies and tools of social knowledge in order to develop research possibilities for understanding and a critical transformation of the relevant social issues.

To promote a generation, a dissemination and a social appropriation of knowledge provided in order to strengthen an interaction between the University and other academic and social groups of our country and the continent.
