To meet the needs of further education of Mathematics teachers, Dept. of Mathematics —dma— at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional — upn— has opened its application process for cohort 2014-I.


Just over 20 years ago the Dept. of Mathematics at the upn is committed to provide the community of mathematics teachers in our country a program of Specialization in Mathematics Education. Some of those years were supported by Professor Carlos Ruiz (who has just been dedicated this version of Meeting Geometry), whose actions have allowed the qualification and improvement at least of 179 education professionals who have earned the specialization in Mathematics Education and thus a responsibility to develop a mathematical culture of Colombian citizens. In this sense, some graduates of the specialization found a gateway to research in Mathematics Education, and today they make up a part of the professional Colombian capital who is leading that field of research.


Therefore, all community members of the Dept. of Mathematics are very proud to celebrate 20 years of an academic endeavor that now takes on new challenges, as joining the program to the Advanced Training System of the University and particularly to the Master in Teaching Mathematics (36 years ago enrolled its first student) and to the Emphasis in Mathematics Education of Cross-Institution Doctorate in Education, which in the near future will integrate their efforts and academic skills with our Dept.


Therefore, we express our gratitude to those who relied on the Specialization of their training; each of the teachers who in turn shaped teams of teaching trainers, and those who have been part of the board team and administrative-academic program during these twenty years.
