Be constructive, meaningful and comprehensive on the basis of an ongoing dialogue in domestic, regional, national and international contexts.

Mission

To educate integral and suitable men and women for teaching focused on the many expressions of language study – the own language, foreign languages, literature and other sign systems, which can be used by human beings for the sake of communication and a comprehensive cognitive construction.

Our Department aims for the academic excellence of language and literature teachers, which designs and enables the launching of pioneering programs regarding formation, updating, improving and extension that necessarily impact on the improvement at all levels of the Colombian education quality.

Closely related to these activities, the Dept. of Languages develops research processes aimed to give solutions in order to address educational and pedagogical issues related to language, literature and culture of the Colombian nation.

Furthermore the Dept. of Languages strengthens the thought framework of our own disciplines (through teaching and research), sets socializing ties through inter-institutional relations; and looks for better ways to project knowledge at local, regional and international levels guided by clear and rigorous quality criteria, which are evident in all of own processes and products. (Curriculum Innovation Project; Dept. of Languages; Sept. 1999, p. 9.)
